Hi there! I’m Ceili (Kale-Lee), but my friends and loved ones call me Kale. I wanted to take the time to tell you a bit about us. Eva and I met one month after I moved to the Dayton, Ohio area in 2017. After we went on our first date, we were inseparable and knew that we had both just met the love of our life. All our friends and family could tell that we were head over heels in love and that it wouldn't be long until we tied the knot as they say! We were married on a cold wintery day in December of 2018 with a small group of people. Shortly after the pandemic hit, we decided we wanted to purchase our first home, and moved from downtown Dayton to an acre of land in Washington Township. Our marriage continues to bloom every day. Eva and I have both grown a tremendous amount as individuals and have created the strongest bond you can have as a couple. It’s been the most amazing experience of my life.
In our spare time, we enjoy hiking, gardening, yoga, dancing, cooking, listening to music, playing with our pets, painting, playing instruments, going on adventures, house projects, reading & spending time with our loved ones.
We surrounded ourselves with four amazing rescue dogs: Phoebe, Deluca, Dakoda & Crunch. One very chucky & handsome kitty named Kovu. Two rescued mallard ducks named Eli & Edgar. One peacock slider turtle named Floki, and a pleco named Ragnar. We also just recently decided to take on our very first beehive. It’s safe to say we have created our very own homestead!
In our first few years of living in our new home, we have strived to have a very small carbon footprint & live a sustainable life. We started by building amazing gardens that continue to expand each year, making our own compost, sowing our own plants, and everything is grown from organic heirloom seeds. Each time we tend to the garden, we put a lot of love and high vibrations into each plant. It’s an amazing feeling to harvest fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs that are packed with vitamins, antioxidants & other minerals.
I know it may seem that Strawberry Lane Market popped up over night, but this story actually began when I was a child.
I grew up in Maryland in a small town on the Chesapeake Bay called Havre de Grace. It is truly a charming little gem if you ever have the chance to visit.
When we are growing up and even into the early stages of adulthood everyone tends to have a role model. To this day my role model is my mother, Brenda. My mom was intelligent, brave, resilient, strong, and had a heart that was full of love. She was an inspiration to many. One incredible fact about my mom was that she always showed me who she was as an individual. There was no hiding behind the curtain of parenthood, she was her true self. And luckily I was given the same space to grow individually. She shared everything with me including her love for gardening, cooking, baking and living a sustainable life. In the mid 2000's our home finally made it in many of our town garden tours and that was when my mom had the idea to start a small shop that would sell home made goods from our garden. It was going to be fun project that my mom, my sister Holly, and I could all do together. Unfortunately, it never came to fruition the way we had planned. My mom passed away in July of 2010 from a long battle with cancer. It all happened so fast and I was only 16 years old and Holly was only 7 at the time. Shortly after, I knew that I had to be the one to pass down our mom's legacy.
Last summer, our gardens flourished and we had a huge harvest that we weren't able to use ourselves. So I thought to myself, what a great way to honor my mom, lets create our very own market just like we had planned all those years ago. But what to call it.. Well I landed on Strawberry Lane Market because the house where I grew up was located on Market Street and behind it was a cute little alley named Strawberry Lane. I thought this was indeed the most perfect name because not only does it incase where I grew up, but it also contains all of those special memories. To this day, I still feel very connected to my mom spiritually, and every single time I am in the garden, I know she is there with me.
